English and Chichewa are both official languages. Chichewa is widely spoken but the language of the business community is English.
The climate varies from cool in the highlands to warm around Lake Malawi. Winter (May to July) is dry and nights can be chilly, particularly in the highlands. The rainy season runs from November to March.
The currency is the Malawi Kwacha = 100 tambala.

Kaya Mawa, located on fascinating Likoma Island in Lake Malawi, was built in partnership with the local community. Stone and teak framed structures are set into a granite headland, and sandy beaches stretch in both directions. The rooms face the lake at the foot of a rocky promontory,
or have expansive lake views from the elevated bedroom and the verandahs, one is a private island. There are 2 family houses on the main beach, 2 two luxury houses ideal for honeymooners, and a 4-bedroom villa. Explore Likoma Island on foot or by bike or quad bike. The locals are very welcoming and the island culture is very accessible, including the remarkable cathedral. Excellent diving and snorkelling can be enjoyed here, as well as kayaking, windsurfing and sailing.

Malawi is a land locked country south of the equator, sharing borders with Tanzania to the north, Zambia to the west and Mozambique to the south and east. Its main tourism attraction is Lake Malawi, which dominates the country, the 'Calender Lake' so called because it is 365 miles and 52 miles at its longest and widest points respectively.
But there is more to Malawi than just the lake.
Other attractions include national parks and game reserves, beautiful mountains and plateaux and a rich cultural heritage. And of course there is also the friendly people of Malawi, the legendary welcome is there for all who wish to experience the combination of lake, landscape, wildlife and culture in one of Africa's most beautiful countries.
