 BOTSWANA
 AFRICA’S FINEST, NATURALLY
Botswana
Key Facts
Time Zone is GMT + 2 hours
The official language is English, with Setswana being the most common local language.
Straddling the Tropic of Capricorn, Botswana experiences extremes in temperatures up to 40°C in the dry season and occasionally low night-time temperatures. In the Kalahari, sub-zero night-time temperatures are common in June & July.
The country’s rainfall mainly occurs from December to March and usually only in northern and eastern regions. Winter days are typically clear,
warm and sunny while the nights can be pretty cold. Different regions have specific variances, as the terrain varies from hilly bushveld in the east, through the semi-desert conditions of the central regions and on to the semi-tropical conditions of the northern areas.
The local currency is the Pula (P). Take US Dollars with you for tipping.
But there is much more to Botswana. Chobe National Park (incorporating Savute) is renowned for its predator and Elephant populations; Moremi Game Reserve has an amazing variety of wildlife; the Tuli Block offers great game viewing, archeological and conservation projects and easy access from South Africa; and the Boteti River on the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park encompasses cultural and wilderness experiences.
The best time to visit the country is May - September (the dry season), with highest rainfall December - February (mid-summer) and the other months being the ‘in-between’ months.
