The official languages are
English and French. Creole (a
mixture of French and African
languages) is the most widely spoken. Hindi, Bhojpuri, Urdu and Chinese are also spoken.
With its wonderful tropical climate, Mauritius is very much an all-year-round destination. The island has a maritime climate that is characterised by mild temperatures with small seasonal and daily variations. November to April are the hottest months with temperatures averaging 27oC. It is coolest between June and September when the mercury drops to around 22oC. It is fairly dry from June to October and there is a marked wet season during the summer months between November and February. Cyclones may occur between November and February, peaking in January and February. The relative humidity is fairly high.
The currency is the Mauritian Rupee (MR). 1 Rupee = 100 cents
